Ibec Environment Awards Winners Announced







The Ibec Environment Awards are held every two years and provide an excellent opportunity to showcase environmental achievements undertaken within your company in the last two years. The awards recognise Irish companies that combine innovation, financial savings and environmental concerns.


Finalists announced in the Ibec Environment Awards 2015/16


The finalists in the Ibec Environment Awards 2015/ 2016 have been officially announced by Mary Rose Burke, Director of Corporate, Strategic and International Affairs and Chair of the Awards Judging Panel. The aim of the awards is to recognise Irish companies that combine innovation, financial savings and environmental concerns.


Entries were received from all sectors of Irish business including hospitality, food, pharmaceutical and offices type environments. Applications were received from all size for business from small family owned to large multi national companies.

All of the short-listed companies have the opportunity to compete in the EU level of the awards, the European Business Awards for the Environment 2016 which are run by the European Commission.


11 companies have been selected as finalists, from 8 different counties, across 3 categories.



ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT: for commitment to an environmental management scheme that enables the business to continuously improve their environmental performance.

Award finalists:


Abbott Ireland – Dublin
For the environmental management system that included a range of environmental initiatives which were delivered by both technical solutions and behavioural change.

Aurivo Dairy Ingredients - Roscommon
For an environmental management system that showcases a company with an excellent environmental ethos that they have embedded into their daily operations as well as working with the supply chain (farmers) to be more environmentally efficient

Hotel Doolin - Clare
For a small business with an environmental management system that shows very strong environmental commitment with staff and community participation

Intel - Kildare
For an environmental management system that demonstrates management commitment, a high level of employee engagement as well as engagement with stakeholders in the community with regards to the environmental impact of the site



PRODUCT & SERVICE: for the development or implementation of a new product or service that is environmentally efficient.

Award finalists:

Baxter Healthcare – Mayo
For the redesign of their existing product Viaflo (medical IV units) to reduce their carbon footprint

Kilkenny Cooling Systems – Kilkenny
For the development of an energy efficient ‘Smart’ beer cooling/ system

Roadstone – Dublin
For the development of a more sustainable concrete block the Thermal Lite-Block

Roadstone – Dublin
For the re-design of their current asphalt product to increase the quantity of old road surface material used.



PROCESS: for an innovative production or process solution that makes an outstanding change to your business process to provide cost savings, efficiency and a benefit to the environment.

Award finalists

Anglo Beef Processors - Tipperary
For changes in their current operations to reduce their water, waste and energy consumption.

Dawn Meats - Waterford
For the eco-design of a natural gas powered refrigeration compressor to their cold store to reduce energy consumption and heat hot water on site

GSK – Waterford
For the structured mapping of their energy usage on site resulting in re-design of current processes to reduce energy consumption

Novartis - Cork
For developing a data analysis tool to measure and monitor energy usage, resulting in reduced energy consumption with no financial investment needed.




The winners will be announced in January 2016.

Winners will be announced at an awards ceremony lunch taking place in Residence, St. Stephen’s Green on 15 January 2016. One of the three category winners will also receive the overall Environmental Excellence Award 2015/16

The winner and runner-up in each of the four categories has the option to compete at the EU level of the awards, the European Business Awards for the Environment which are run by the European Commission. This offers Irish companies to promote their environmental achievements at both a national and international level. Ibec has been Ireland’s national coordinator of the European Business Awards for the Environment since 2000. The EU awards take place every two years also, in the year following the national competition.
