A digital single market that works
In May 2015, in response to the European Commission's publication of a new strategy enshrining digitalisation as a key priority for the internal market, Ibec launched its own vision for the European digital single market.
Given our strong record in attracting innovation-based investment, Ireland is well placed to harness digital tools in developing new market opportunities for our goods and services across the EU and beyond. The full potential of digital for both business and consumers has not yet been fully realised. Until now, the rate of technological and behavioural change has outpaced policy and regulatory developments, thereby limiting progress.
Ibec believes that Europe must adopt a flexible regulatory approach which seeks to unlock the full potential of the digital economy. Decision makers must collaborate with business to ensure new rules support the innovative use of digital tools and actively encourage investment in new infrastructure and improved quality goods and services for enterprises and consumers alike.
