National Women's Strategy 2017-2020

Description:

Following significant progress socially and economically on gender issues over the last number of decades, work has begun on developing a new National Women's Strategy for 2017-2020. This Strategy will be informed by extensive public consultation with a broad range of stakeholders and aims to create “an Ireland where all women enjoy equality with men and can achieve their full potential while enjoying a safe and fulfilling life”.

Implication(s):

The Strategy needs to build on the work achieved and fully address the challenges that remain which include: occupational and educational segregation; gender stereotypes and attitudes; the lack of quality, affordable childcare; the division of caring responsibilities between men and women; and the challenges to gender balance in decision-making.

Current Position:

These cultural values and expectations that we hold as a society need to be addressed and policy interventions and supports from the classroom through to the boardroom applied. Please find the full Ibec submission below.
