Employment and Youth Activation Charter
This is the thinking behind The Employment and Youth Activation Charter, a new business-led initiative which enables employers to help solve one of Ireland’s biggest challenges on its road to recovery. Employers who sign this Charter commit that at least 50 per cent of candidates considered for interview will be taken from the unemployment register through the services of the local Intreo office.
There is enormous untapped talent here and employers are being asked to exhaust the Live Register first when recruiting. Signatories also have the option of providing training and/or work experience or getting involved in support activity such as providing pre-employment skills within their community.
A copy of the Charter is available below. Implementation guidelines are also available to assist employers who sign up to the Charter. The names and logos of signatory Charter companies will be displayed on the Department of Social Protection (www.welfare.ie) to increase awareness of their support (however, signatories are free to opt-out of this).
When a company signs the Charter, it will receive a letter providing details of the supports available and the name of its nominated point of contact in the Intreo service, who will then make direct contact with it to offer advice.
Companies are invited to email a copy of the signed charter or requests for further information to employercharter@welfare.ie. They may also post back the signed charter to Employer Engagement and Client Services, Department of Social Protection, Goldsmith House, Pearse Street, Dublin 2.
