HR policies

Ibec have produced a number of generic sample policies. These policies will need to be tailored to suit the needs of each individual organisation and be extended to cover any unique circumstances which exist.

Further guidance on the development of policies and procedures can be obtained from the IR/HR Knowledge Centre or your Ibec advisor.

Induction policy and checklist

Force majeure leave policy

30/01/2017 - Force majeure leave is short-term paid leave that employees can avail of to enable them to deal with family emergencies, resulting from the sudden injury or illness of a family member, once certain conditions have been met.

Carer’s leave policy

26/01/2017 - Under the Carer’s Leave Act 2001, employees are entitled to a maximum of 104 weeks leave in order to provide full-time care and attention to a person requiring it.

Company car policy

24/01/2017 - This policy should be adapted to reflect the needs of the business and the entitlements provided. You should clarify to whom the benefit will apply, ie, position, employee level, role. It is vital that insurance requirements from the company’s insurance provider are expressly stated in the policy and signed off by the employee.

Expenses policy

24/01/2017 - The purpose of this policy is to provide guidelines and procedures in relation to reimbursing expenses incurred by employees while carrying out business activities on behalf of the company, and ensuring expenditure and claims are in accordance with Revenue Commissioner rules and good accounting practice.

Annual leave policy

23/01/2017 - Annual leave is a statutory provision for all employees, as per the Organisation of Working Time Act 1997.

Closed circuit television (CCTV) policy

23/01/2017 - CCTV is used by the organisation as part of the operational system for security. The purpose of the system is to protect against crime, including theft or pilferage, and to ensure the security of all staff and property. Here is a sample policy on CCTV usage in the workplace.

Social media policy

11/12/2014 - This policy on social media must be read in conjunction with other employee policies. Particular attention is drawn to the dignity at work, equality, bullying and harassment, internet, e-mail usage, data protection, and business confidentiality policies, all of which are applicable to social media usage.

Parental leave policy

11/03/2013 - This sample policy outlines some areas for considerations, in addition to legislative entitlements and conditions, which an employer will need to decide upon such as whether they will allow an employee to break up the leave into shorter periods of time.
