Leadership

Leadership represents:

“The ability of an individual to influence, motivate and enable others to contribute toward the effectiveness and success of the organisations of which they are members" (House, Hanges, Javidan, Dorfman and Gupta, 2004, p.56)

The 21st century has seen major changes in the global economic environment and this poses major challenges for leaders. Leaders are now faced with an increasingly complex, ever-changing external environment, with movable borders and increasing regulation for how business is done. Within the organisation is a diverse and multi-layered internal environment, and leaders are required to make decisions faster and probably with less information than previously. The traditional, hierarchical models of leadership that were valid in the past are not as relevant today.
